Activities In 2009 at Blackpool
Blackpool looks set to have a bumper year in 2009! Analysts forecast with the current strength of the Euro against the pound and amazingly a good summer predicted, holidaymakers will be switching to resorts in the UK. There is no doubt that Blackpool offers value for money plus there are many attractions to keep you occupied.
Perhaps the most renowned accretion in Blackpool is the Blackpool Tower. Blackpool Tower opened on 14th May 1894, with the aquarium existing as a standalone attraction from the late 1870's. The tower is 518ft 9inches tall, with the walk of faith at 380ft from street level. The Tower alone contains 2,493 tons of steel and 93 tons of cast iron. The building at the base contains 985 tons of steel and 259 tons of cast iron. The Blackpool Tower attraction contains six separate attractions within the Tower building. The attractions are The Tower Top, The Tower Ballroom, The Tower Circus, Jungle Jims, The Tower Aquarium, and Jurassic Walk.
The SEA LIFE centre is also very popular with tourists and perhaps in one of the best Sea Life centres in the UK. SEA LIFE's senior marine biologist Rob Hicks explained that the Sea Life centres provide views on a world hitherto seen only by experienced scuba divers. Even fishermen who are aware of the huge range of creatures could only guess at what the habitat really looks like. Sealife displays aim to reproduce these natural surroundings as faithfully as possible. The environments range from the tidal rock pools, beds of eel grass, dark rocky caves, the icy deep to the sandy shallows. To keep all the creatures healthy and comfortable hi tech filtration systems keep the water in tip top condition. Theses filtration systems are carefully maintained and monitored through the whole year.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the United Kingdom's most visited attraction! Pleasure Beach, Blackpool began in 1896. Today, there's plenty to do, with over 125 rides and attractions and spectacular shows. Take a thrilling ride on the Pepsi Max Big One, turn your world upside down and get ready to do it again on the Revolution or experience the classic twin tracked coaster the Grand National. It has rides for all the family, from the white knuckle rides of the Big One to Infusion to the family friendly Zipper Dipper to the Log Fume, plus great shows, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has something for everyone.
Louis Tussaud's Waxworks is located on the promenade just opposite Central Pier. They have hundreds of models in themed areas. There are 9 themed rooms covering the making of a waxwork, Hollywood, Celebrities, Movies, Corrie, Regal, Seaside, Horror and Rock Factory. These themed rooms are set over 4 floors, you will be able to mix with the models and take your photos with the stars, remember to bring your camera.
Blackpool Zoo is a brilliant attraction to visit for a day, see the monkeys, the sea lions, and the new pride of 3 new lionesses that have joined the king of the jungle.
There are many other attractions to visit in Blackpool and I will be detailing this in my future articles.
